Our History

In 1858, eleven Lutherans came together in the old Evangelical church located on the South side of West Findlay Street in Carey to organize the Christ Evangelical Lutheran Church.

Over the Years

Throughout the years, Christ Lutheran Church has seen many changes involving the church services and resources as well as the physical building itself including multiple rebuilds and renovations.

We saw new buildings constructed in 1890, with an addition constructed for Christian Education in 1898, and an entirely new building in a new location (directly East) in the late 1950’s.

Following expansion, we expanded resources along with our congregation, adding our weekly bulletin in 1929, Vacation Bible School in the following summer of 1930, and finally joining the Evangelical Lutheran Churches of America in 1961.

Today

Even though our physical appearance may have changed over the years, Christ Evangelical Lutheran Church of Carey still remains dedicated to sharing the word of the Lord as well as providing goodwill throughout our community.
